Coco Chanel |
Coco Chanel was the first to introduce the use of female trousers, launching a new model of woman, a strong an dynamic woman, able to express her femininity also through a revisitation of typically masculine clothes. This is precisely the idea behind the term TOMBOY, which refers to all those women who have the habit of using menswear. This women are brazen and confident, daring, out of the ordinary and they venture to show a masculine femininity. Think about Marlene Dietrich, a movie star in the early 20th century, who exhibit herself with great pride at the awards wearing tailcoats and top hat, or about Patti Smith.
But nowadays? Are still there women that feel beautiful wearing oversize shirts, classic trousers, blazers and oxfords in a world in which the standard of feminine beauty is more similar to Barbie rather than Lady Oscar? Clearly, for example the model and actress Lou Doillon, models Freja Beha Erichsen and Binx Walton or the street style queen Leandra Medine. Personally, I consider tomboy style absolutely perfect in both its versions, namely garçonne-style, more elegant and sober, and mannish, more sporty and youthful. Even the designers have been attracted to men-like style, infact the entered into their spring and winter collections many elements typical of tomboy, first of all classic trousers and male cutted blazers, boyfriend or skinny high-wasted jeans, then shirts and sweaters with baggy silhouettes and oversize jackets, finally oxfords or sneakers.
So girls, get rid of lace anc crochet, femininity is a matter of personality!
